Nokia Samsung make fun of samsung galaxy s5 launch

Nokia and HTC have mocked Samsung's Galaxy S5 launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The two rivals took to Twitter to mock and disrupt the launch in a 'not-so-funny' manner.

According to CNET, HTC, a company with some nice phones but not without its own problems, tweeted: "Buyer's remorse: Coming soon to S5 owners. March 25."

The Taiwanese manufacturer went a step further by suggesting that a person would be an idiot to buy the Galaxy S5, akin to what Samsung tells iPhone buyers.

HTC has scheduled an event for March 25, where it is expected to launch the successor of its top smartphone One.

Nokia tweeted with an image of its own not-yet-legendary phones: "Stand out from the crowd!

The 'unamusing' responses from the two companies failed to ruffle the South Korean giant's anticipated mobile and wearables launch at the event.

Samsung has, in the past, poked fun at Apple's iPhone launches, mocking the long lines of buyers and new iPhone features that its own Galaxy phones have had for several months.

LG Smartwatch coming in 2014: CEO

LG will launch its first smartwatch in 2014, the head of its mobile unit said on Monday, tapping into the nascent market for wearable devices seen as the mobile industry's new source of growth.

The announcement from the South Korean smartphone maker came after industry leader Samsung on Sunday launched the second generation of its own internet-enabled smartwatch, Galaxy Gear 2.

"We are working on the development of wearable device... more specifically in the form of a watch," Park Jong-Seok, the CEO of LG Electronics' mobile unit, told reporters.

"(It) will come out this year," he said, adding the watch would be remotely linked to smartphones.

"We're working hard to put on the table something that other companies have not offered yet," Park said, without elaborating further.

LG - the world's fourth-largest smartphone maker - has not entered yet the market for wearable devices currently dominated by firms like Samsung, Sony and Pebble.

A typical smartwatch allows users to make calls, receive texts and emails, take photos and access apps.

So far, few companies have managed to generate large consumer excitement or sales in the market, also eyed by firms like Apple and Google.

Apple is believed to be set to launch its own smartwatch soon, while Google is moving towards a wider consumer launch of its internet-enabled Glass later this year.

The much-anticipated Galaxy Gear smartwatch launched by Samsung last September, however, was received coldly by consumers, who viewed it unfashionable and unwieldy.

Now Samsung - the world's top maker of smartphones and mobile phones - seeks to lure more consumers with an array of new features on the Galaxy Gear 2, including sport tracking software, a heart rate monitor and remote control for devices such as TVs.

Many handset makers are banking on smart devices to boost revenue as sales of smartphones slow in the mature, and most profitable markets.

Though smartphone sales surged 42.4% to 968 million units last year, according to Gartner, the growth came from developing markets like Latin America, India and China, while mature markets such as western Europe and the United States hit the brakes.

Meanwhile, global smartwatch sales are expected grow this year by more than 500% from 1.9 million units in 2013, and to expand further in coming years, according to the market researcher Strategic Analytics.

Advanced markets including the US and Western Europe will drive the market, it said

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the New Mobile King

Billionaire 29-year-old Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg stars in Mobile World Congress (MWC), the mobile industry's biggest fair on Monday, fresh from his $19 billion (14-billion-euro) takeover of smartphone messenger WhatsApp.The keynote speaker on the opening day of the February 24-27 MWC in Barcelona, Zuckerberg has come a long way in the mobile world in a short time.

When Facebook sold its shares to the public in an initial public offering in May 2012, "it literally had no mobile advertising revenues," said Eden Zoller, analyst at the research house Ovum.

"It did actually have a pretty strong mobile user base at IPO but what it had failed to do at that time was actually monetise those mobile users," she said.

At the time of the float, worries over the lack of money coming in from the mobile business sent Facebook's shares sliding.

But the social network - boasting more than 1.2 billion members - quickly repaired its strategy.

By the end of 2013, mobile devices accounted for 53% of Facebook's advertising revenue, bringing in $1.2 billion in the last quarter and more than $3 billion over the whole year.

However mobile advertising can be "highly intrusive," Zoller cautioned, especially if it interrupts a user's engagement with an application.

"You have to be very careful." Nevertheless, the social network needs to keep up the momentum, the analyst said.

"It can't be complacent. On the mobile front it is particularly important. Consumers have an increasing number of social media and social messaging alternatives to Facebook."

The company still has a weak point, however, she added: its failure to carve out a strong position in mobile payment systems, which are expected to show strong growth in the next few years.

Nonetheless, Facebook is clearly building a base for further revenue growth.

On Wednesday, the social network announced its takeover of WhatsApp, which followed last year's smaller purchase of online photograph-sharing site Instagram.

"Facebook is paying for one of the fastest growing audiences in history - WhatsApp is now nearing half a billion users globally - and the monetisation potential that that brings," said Guillermo Escofet of research house Informa.

Facebook has captured 18.4% of the mobile publicity market, making it the number two force after Google, according to digital media analyst eMarketer.

"They performed a remarkable turnaround from about two years ago," said Escofet, recalling the social network's early reluctance to push advertising to mobile devices.

"The reason for that is because they did not want to compromise the user experience on mobile and they did not want to cram the small mobile screen with ads," he said.

Facebook's solution was to integrate advertising into its users' news stream, where members read the latest events in their "friends"' lives.

It has proven an efficient strategy. Of Facebook's 1.23 billion users who are active at least once a month, three-quarters access the site from their smartphones.

Today, it is a "mobile company," declared Sephi Shapira, chief executive of advertising platform MassiveImpact, a Facebook partner.

"We are very happy with them," he said. MassiveImpact's clients publicize on Facebook, but only pay when users click on the advertisement and then actually buy the product.

For products such as insurance, the percentage of users who make a purchase after clicking on a web advertisement is often in single digits, but for mobile apps that figure can rise to 20% or 30%.

"For app promotion, I think they're definitely the best," Shapira said. Many advertisers now devote all their publicity to mobile devices, not even spending on internet advertising, he said.

But "I think we should not get too excited," Shapira cautioned. "You have to run just to stay alive. So in this market, you have to constantly be innovating and developing new technologies just to survive, if you don't, you disappear."

Nexus 8 runing Android 4.5 to launch in July : Report

Google is reportedly working on an 8-inch Nexus tablet that will run Android 4.5, the next iteration of Google's mobile operating system.

According to a report by Android Geeks that cites a Google Dublin employee as source, Android 4.5 will be introduced in July along with a new tablet, the Nexus 8. The source said that Google's I/O event which is scheduled to take place on June 25-26, will only focus on services.

It also added that Google will stop making a 7-inch Nexus tablet, due to increased competition in the segment.

Earlier, a DigiTimes report that cited a Taiwan based source had said that Google will launch an 8-inch Nexus tablet at the end of April with "initial shipments of two million units." The same report had also suggested that the tablet would be made by Asus, the OEM which makes the Nexus 7 tablet for Google.

The Nexus 8 tablet would compete with Apple's iPad mini, Samsung's 8-inch Galaxy Tab and LG G Pad.

Facebook losing its cool Quotient : Report

With the social networking giant, Facebook, recently turning a decade old, its need to work harder to

retain as well as engage more audience has become all the more crucial.
Co-author of "The New Killer Apps: How Large Companies Can Out-Innovate Start-Ups," Paul Carroll warned that Facebook would struggle to expand its brief beyond what it's currently doing.
According to the New York Post, CEO Mark Zuckerberg's brainchild needs to prove that it could continue to grow despite the possibility that it has already begun to saturate its most fertile marketplaces while facing stiff competition in key foreign centers.
However, Facebook's early dominance on the Internet's social networking zone is clearly diminishing with rivals like Twitter and LinkedIn fast taking charge.
An analyst for Janney Capital Markets, Tony Wible said that Facebook's biggest challenge is to keep its users engaged, adding that the company has set a high bar, and it has to think up new ways to hook people.
As more and more 'adults' are signing up for the social networking site, its teen audience is slowly turning its back and adopting fresher and more 'young' sites like Twitter.
Caroll stated that Facebook is losing its cool factor, which is evident from the declining interest among teens, the report added.

Sony Xperia G specifications, Photos Leaked

Sony is widely expected to launch its next top-end smartphone, Sirius, at Mobile World Congress later in February. Now the tech community is abuzz with speculation that the company will also showcase a mid-range smartphone, named Xperia G, at the event.

Twitter user ViziLeaks has posted two photos and key specifications of the upcoming Xperia G. As per the photos posted by ViziLeaks, the device will sport the same look as other models in the Japanese manufacturer's portfolio, but will not have water- and dust-resistant certification unlike most of its siblings.
Xperia G is said to have a 4.8-inch screen, though the resolution is not yet known. Other key specifications leaked online include 8GB internal storage, 4G connectivity, 1GB RAM and 8MP camera.

Sony recently moved out of the laptop market, after selling its Vaio unit to a Japanese investment group. The beleaguered manufacturer has said that it will refocus on its TV business and cut 5,000 jobs.

Review: Nokia Lumia 1520

Pros:
Excellent screen; Great camera; Sturdy and premium build; Impressive multimedia performance; Free voice-guided sat nav; Comes with Microsoft's productivity apps.
Cons:
Too large to be a phone; A few games are still missing on WP8.
Design And BuildIf you like pockatable phones, the 1520 is not for you. With a 6" screen, it's huge and unwieldy. Heck, it's even bigger than the Samsung GALAXY Note 3. Only monstrosities such as Sony's Xperia Z Ultra and Samsung's Mega 6.3 beat the 1520 when it comes to the odd size. Personally, I wouldn't want to be seen with such huge phone in public.
Design-wise, the phone is based on Nokia's fabula design language that debuted on the N9. With its unibody design the 1520 looks like an overgrown 720. One thing worth mentioning here is that the phone supports wireless charging. It packs in the induction charging coil in its 8.7 mm thin body, which is quite feat.
The 1520's construction is top-notch. There's not a single rough spot on the phone. Even the loudspeaker grille pores are machined with precision. The buttons placement is a standard Lumia affair. The screen along with the capacitive keys are covered by a layer of scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 2. It's worth noting that the Lumia 1520 is Nokia's first phone to adhere to nano-SIM standards. That's going to be helpful for those making a switch from the iPhone. The rest will have to get their SIM card changed.
Display
The 1520's 6" IPS LCD screen has pixel dimensions of 1920x1080. That takes its pixel density to around 365 ppi. No doubt, the display is very sharp, but what's even more impressive are the viewing angles. Even at extreme angles, the screen manages to retain legibility with minimal colour shift. Thanks to polarisation filters, the phone delivers relatively deeper blacks while eliminating the screen glare. Backed by the Assertive display tech, the screen offers excellent picture quality in various lighting conditions. The system comprises of a dedicated chip and software algorithm that controls individual pixels in real time. Similar to the current crop of Lumias, the 1520 comes with a super-sensitivity display. For those who like to experiment, there's an option to play around with the colour profile. So you can change the colour tone from natural to vivid.
Specifications
Apart from a 2.2 GHz quad-core processor, the phone features an Adreno 330 GPU. For multitasking, there's 2 GB of RAM. Internal storage is 32 GB, and you can throw in additional 64 Gigs via the microSD card slot. The phone flaunts a 20 megapixel camera with  PureView branding. The 3400 mAh battery promises up to 5 days of music playback. The handset's network and Wi-Fi reception was spotless.
Software
The Lumia 1520 runs Windows Phone 8 Update 3 out of the box. After adding its own enhancements, Nokia packages it as Lumia Black. WP now allows you to close background apps. The much needed rotation lock is finally here. The Glance screen offers more options. As mentioned in 525's review, the Finns have also provided 'Folder' option to club similar apps on a single tile.

Facebook crowdsourcing gives Lonely boy 1.4 million Friends !!

Being 10-years-old is hard enough -- and add in an isolating syndrome like Asperger's and making friends can be even more difficult.
Such is the case of Colin. He is a 10-year-old boy who lives in Michigan and is on the lower end of the autism spectrum. Despite his efforts to make friends, he is usually made fun of and eats his lunch in the school office because other kids won't let him sit at their tables, according to his mother.
When Colin's mother, Jennifer Cunningham, asked him if he wanted a birthday party, he responded that there wasn't any point because he didn't have friends. That's when she decided to surprise him by creating a "Happy Birthday Colin" Facebook page.
"I created this page for my amazing, wonderful, challenging son who is about to turn 11 on March 9th. Because of Colin's disabilities, social skills are not easy for him, and he often acts out in school, and the other kids don't like him," Cunningham wrote on February 2, when she created the page. "So I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words, that would be better than any birthday party."
In just 10 days, the page has reached more than 1.4 million likes. Tens of thousands of people from around the world have commented on the page, wishing Colin happy birthday and commending Cunningham for helping her son. Hundreds of others have sent snail mail birthday cards and letters to Colin with good wishes.
As the page continues to gain popularity, Cunningham has shared details about Colin and his disposition. She says he's a thoughtful boy who loves Nintendo 3DS, Pokémon, and Doctor Who. He also doesn't complain about being picked on.
"Not once, despite everything he goes through every day, does he whine or complain about having to go to school," Cunningham wrote last week. "When I asked him why he said, 'Because you've got  keep trying.'"
Colin still doesn't know about the surprise awaiting him. Cunningham will reveal the Facebook page to him on his birthday in March.
"Colin was telling me all the people from countries all over the world that he has 'met' via friend codes on his DS," Cunningham wrote on Friday, "and I was dying to tell him about the thousands of people all over the world that know his name because of this page, but we have a month to go yet till his birthday, so I kept it in."

Leaked Screenshots Reveal Windows Phone 8.1 'Notification Center'

Notification center has been one of the most requested feature in Windows Phone platform. Now it seems Microsoft has taken the user feedback seriously and is ready to deliver this functionality in the next software update. A Spanish website Winphollowers.com claims to have acquired Microsoft's PowerPoint presentation meant for the company insiders. Going by the screenshots, Microsoft's version of notification center will be called the 'Action Center'. Similar to the BB 10 OS, a short swipe from top will reveal quick shortcuts for connectivity options including WI-Fi, Bluetooth, and Car mode. If you swipe all the way down, you'll get the full-fledged 'Action Center' that displays notifications in a stacked manner.

The slide also reads that certain apps can "intelligently" manage notifications. Currently, we don't know what exactly does that mean. This new feature is a part of the Windows Phone 8.1 update (codenamed Blue), expected to go official in April at Microsoft's BUILD developer conference.

What will be the Future Of Facebook ????

It takes a fairly precocious 22-year-old to turn down an offer of $1bn for a loss-making company. But that was Mark Zuckerberg’s reaction when Facebook was just two years old.
Yahoo! wanted to buy the burgeoning social network, and was prepared to dig deep. Analysts were astonished when Zuckerberg, who founded the company in his Harvard dormitory room, said no.
With hindsight, of course, there is no question that it was the right decision. In January, the company’s market capitalization passed $150bn (£91bn) for the first time. On Tuesday, the social network celebrated its 10th birthday. Only Google has grown so much, so fast.
Facebook’s valuation is not the only impressive number it has to boast about. In the decade since Zuckerberg launched “theFacebook”, as it was then known, the website has attracted 1.23bn members – nearly half of the global population with internet access. Some 750m of those use Facebook every day.
The social network’s original appeal may have been novelty, but today analysts see it as a utility. For many it is now the main platform they use for sharing photographs and communicating with friends. It has become so embedded in people’s lives, even users who have become resentful of Facebook find it hard to kick the habit.
Zuckerberg also turned down Microsoft's offer to buy facebook as he knew people wanted a place to express themselves freely.Although many theories and surveys
have emerged for the situation of facebook during the next ten years but none of them seems promising. It is expected that Twitter Inc. will grow but facebook will collapse during the next ten years. Some theories say that Facebook will close by the end of year 2017. It is also believed that the young generation will withdraw themselves from the Facebook mostly due to privacy and related issues. What will happen in next ten years need to be seen and no theories and surveys can be regarded as completely correct now.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Specs Leaked

Ahead of its unveiling at Mobile World Congress 2014 in February end, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S5 smartphone has once again become the talking point in the tech community. All the key specifications of the model have been leaked by benchmark testing app Antutu.

Galaxy S5 posts a score of 35666 on Antutu test, higher than the scores set by other top-end smartphones like Galaxy Note 3, Sony Xperia Z Ultra, LG G2 etc.

The data shows that the Galaxy S5 will have a full HD screen, with no mention of the screen size; earlier reports have said that the handset will feature a 5.25-inch display. It was rumoured that Samsung will introduce its first 2K resolution display panel with the Galaxy S5. Instead, the data shows that it will continue to use the full HD screen in top phones this year as well.

Antutu's data also shows that Galaxy S5 will use the quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset, clocked at 2.5GHz. The same processor is used in smartphones like Galaxy Note 3, Nexus 5, Sony Xperia Z1 and LG G2. The South Korean manufacturer has already launched a version of Galaxy S4, last year's top model, with this processor in the global market.

The big difference between Galaxy S4 and S5 seems to be its camera. The upcoming model will have a 16MP rear camera, as the data shows; it will also have a 2.1MP front camera. The current top phones of Samsung, Note 3 and S4, sport 13MP cameras. The Galaxy S4 zoom, however, has a 16MP camera on the back.

Galaxy S5 will run on Android 4.4.2, the latest version of the operating system, out of the box. It is likely to be layered with the revamped version of Samsung's Touch Wiz user interface.

The data also shows that the Galaxy S5 will have 1.7GB of free RAM; it is likely that it will come with 3GB RAM on board and the remaining will be taken up by Samsung's custom user interface.

Among the list of sensors recorded by the benchmarking app are the standard sensors, but there is no mention of eye or fingerprint scanners. Both of these scanners are widely rumoured to be part of the upcoming Galaxy S5.

Samsung is expected to unveil Galaxy S5 globally at the Unpacked 5 event, scheduled for February 24 in Barcelona.

Google has reportedly hired Adobe Photoshop honcho John Nack to help manage its photo editing
tools.

A former principal product manager for Photoshop at Adobe, Nack confirmed his tie-up with Google on his blog on Monday.

Nack, expressed his delight over joining Google and said that now he would get a chance to work on some new projects, adding that he was proud of the impact he has had at Adobe and of the legacy he had left behind, CNET reported.

Google has successfully made its presence felt in the field of digital photo world over the recent years and in 2012, the company had acquired Nik Software for photo editing on mobile devices and personal computers.

Satya Nadella - The Next Microsoft CEO

                                                                   Satya Nadella
You might remember a now-famous scene with Steven A Ballmer, then the chief executive of Microsoft, walking on stage at a conference in 2006, sweat staining his armpits and chest while he passionately bellowed, "Developers! Developers! Developers! Developers! Developers!"

It looks like the new Microsoft, which is now being run by Satya Nadella

In a flurry of media that began flowing out of Microsoft on Tuesday announcing the new CEO's role, the word "innovation" peppered news releases, videos and internal emails.

In an email sent by Nadella to Microsoft's nearly 130,000 employees, the word innovation echoed across the page. "We need to prioritize innovation," he wrote in one sentence. "We need to bring more innovation to bear," he wrote in another.

While being interviewed in a promotional video, Nadella used the word three times in one paragraph. When asked what he plans to do now that he is in charge of the software giant, Nadella answered with that word once more.

"Ruthlessly remove any obstacles that allow us to be innovative; every individual to innovate," he said, as he strolled ...through Microsoft's offices. "And then, focus that innovation on things Microsoft can uniquely do." Just to be sure that we heard those words correctly, he then added that he wants to be able to take the company's "innovation forward."

Even Bill Gates, Microsoft's founder, who will become a technology adviser to Nadella, got in on the action. In a video posted on Microsoft's YouTube page, Gates welcomed Nadella, while dropping a few "innovation" bombs.

"Microsoft has a long history of innovation," Gates said in the video. Later in the 104-second clip, he said that in the various business groups where Nadella worked, he has "driven innovation."

The word was also echoed in a Microsoft news release: "A big part of my job is to accelerate our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly," Nadella said.

In the same news release, Gates said the new appointment was part of the company's "next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth."

And, of course, a Microsoft theme wouldn't be complete without Ballmer's passion.

In a video welcoming Nadella to his new role, Ballmer effusively said, "I know Satya will lead this company into the future," a future that, he noted, is going to include "innovation."

, the chief executive who is taking Ballmer's place, has an updated mantra: "Innovation. Innovation. Innovation. Innovation. Innovation."
